In its quest to help Guam’s travel, tourism, and hospitality businesses transform into digital-ready organizations, the Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) has launched the GVB Digital Academy. The mission of the GVB Digital Academy is to empower Guam’s industry workforce with the latest digital skills, techniques, and strategies to stay current with the evolving economy in how customers connect, share, and purchase during the COVID-19 era.

The digital academy provides monthly online training workshops free for GVB and Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association (GHRA) members. The academy offers live instructor-led classes with fun interaction, Q&A, and online networking opportunities. Members attending the live lesson will receive a certification upon completing the evaluation. The training will be recorded and archived, and GVB is also working to organize self-study materials for members to continue to sharpen their digital skills post workshops.

”GVB is excited to explore innovative strategies to help transform Guam’s tourism and culture industry to strive with digitized export methodology and e-commerce distributions,” said Dr. Gerry Perez, GVB Vice President. “The Digital Academy is our broader ambition to provide digital upskilling and reskilling to Guam’s human capital and expand new possibilities for Guam’s digital business transformation as we’re still fighting with the pandemic.”

Workshop Partnership with Run The World

Earlier this month, GVB hosted its first pilot workshop in its new webinar series with Run The World, a virtual event platform from Silicon Valley. With nearly 100 GVB and GHRA members signed up, the attendees learned how to design, promote, and make money out of hosting virtual experiences such as online cooking lessons, yoga classes, craft sessions, and more.

“Run The World was delighted to partner with GVB to conduct its first Digital Academy workshop and show how to leverage the power of digital technology to promote local cultures. We are passionate about bringing the tourism talents and consumers globally together to create memorable experiences online,” said Hannah Shen, Partnerships Manager at Run the World.

The next Digital Academy workshop in the webinar series will be on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2021, at 10 am, focusing on “E-Commerce 101 – Understanding Digital Consumers.” GVB and GHRA members can register for free and can RSVP via the link https://www.runtheworld.today/app/invitation/18303.

Non-GVB members that are interested in attending the workshop may contact Taylor Pangilinan at taylor.pangilinan@visitguam.org. The Bureau encourages every industry professional to join its membership for $100 per year to gain access to all Digital Academy workshops and enjoy other GVB membership benefits.
