Hong Kong people flock to South Korea for tasty food. According to “2018 Statistics on ForeignTourists in First Half of 2018″ announced by the Korea Tourism Organization, 340,000 Hong Kong people visited South Korea in the first half of this year, a2.4% jump from the previous year. It is the highest record in the first half of this year since Hong Kong and South Korea officially started to launch tourism programmes. In regards to the reasons why they visited South Korea, “food trip” accounted for 82.4%, which dramatically increased from 60% in the previous year, as a result of the widespread popularity of South Korean dramas.

The South Korean government and companies roll up their sleeves to promote many Korean dishes through SNS for tourists.

On July 24, the Hanwoo Board announced three top Hanwoo (Korean Beef) dishes for Hong Kong people who travel to South Korea especially in the sweltering summers. Main dishes include grilled Hanwoo sirloin, Hanwoo and octopus stew, and braised Hanwoo ribs.

Braised Hanwoo ribs are steamed meat marinated with honey and soybean sauce. Braised Hanwoo ribs can vitalize diners’ exhausted body in such a sweltering summer.

The announcement was released to promote Hanwoo to Hong Kong people who travel to South Korea for tasty Korean food. The board announced the information in respond to the growing interest, as sales of Hanwoo is increasing in Hong Kong, many people are paying more attention to Hanwoo, and more people are learning to cook Hanwoo and looking for receipes online.

Min Gyung-cheon, the head of Hanwoo Board said, “Numbers are increasing every year since Hanwoo beef was exported to Hong Kong in 2015 as the beef is gaining wider attention. We recommend three dishes for Hong Kong people who show great interest in Korean food and Hanwoo.”
