Graham Perry, Managing Director of BWH Hotel Group Australasia, which includes Best Western Hotels & Resorts and SureStay Hotels, says travellers are spoilt for choice during the upcoming spring holidays, with a range of great hotels and destinations to choose from across Australia and New Zealand.

“Now is a great time for travellers to really explore their own backyard,” says Perry. “Whether you’re in WA wanting to see the quokkas or the wildflowers, looking for a weekend or school holidays escape in NSW, enjoying the local produce and markets in Tasmania or whale watching along coastal Queensland, we have a property for you to stay in.”

To help travellers pick the best location for their spring road trip, we’ve rounded up some great ideas to inspire your next break:

NSW
For country escapes to coastal getaways from Albury to Tweed Heads, there are a range of great destinations across NSW.

Taking the kids to Taronga Western Plains Zoo for a great big adventure? SureStay Blue Diamond Motor Inn, Dubbo has its welcome mat out.

Prefer the finer things in life? Best Western Plus Ambassador Orange is perfectly positioned for you to explore the best local cellar doors and food experiences.

Is Country NSW calling? Goulburn, Wagga, Tamworth, Quirindi and Tenterfield all offer great breaks, whether they’re home to breathtaking national parks, steeped in history or known for their musical delights.

Don’t forget the delights of a city staycation, with two great Sydney locations to choose from – in the heart of the CBD or trendy Glebe near the harbour foreshore.

As an added bonus, four hotels on the NSW North Coast are inviting guests to enjoy double rewards points, as well as a warm spring getaway: Best Western Zebra Motel, Coffs Harbour, Best Western Parkside Motor Inn, Coffs Harbour, Best Western Kennedy Drive Airport Motel, Tweed Heads and SureStay Karinga Motel, Lismore.

CANBERRA
Canberra will be awash with colour this spring as its renowned flower festival Floriade has been reimagined. With spring blossoms set to pop up over 130 different sites, check out the tulip trail map to find the flowers, and be sure to stay at Garden City Hotel, BW Signature Collection while you’re in town.

QUEENSLAND
Dubbed the whale watching capital of Australia, Hervey Bay sees 7,000 humpback whales pass by between July – October every year. If you’re heading to see the migration of these majestic animals, be sure to stay at Best Western Plus Quarterdecks Retreat or Best Western Ambassador Motor Lodge.

In another natural phenomena, the jacarandas will be out in full bloom across Brisbane this spring. Best Western has four Brisbane-based options: Best Western Plus Diana, Best Western Astor Metropole, Best Western Gregory Terrace or Best Western Airport 85.

TASMANIA
Nestled around Emu Bay on Bass Strait, north-western Burnie is home to many artisans, including print, painters, sculptors, ceramics, textiles and glass, who can be seen at the Makers Workshop. For those who prefer to watch animals rather than crafts, there’s also great viewing options at the Little Penguin Observation Centre and Fernglade Platypus Trail. Stay at Best Western Burnie Murchison Lodge.

For those seeking an arts and culture escape, Tasmania’s capital of cool, Hobart, has just the thing. Where better to stay than the centrally located Best Western Hobart or Best Western Balmoral Motor Inn, conveniently located on the Brooker Highway.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA & WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Adelaide is a food-lovers paradise while Robe is known as South Australia’s favourite seaside town with what to do on land, water or sky.

For Western Australians seeking culture, Perth offers it all. Northbridge is home of the state’s art gallery and an eclectic mix of cafes, bars, nightclubs, markets and restaurants, all conveniently accessed from Best Western Northbridge Apartments.

For those who prefer to explore the regions, Best Western offers a plethora of inland and coastal options, including: Pemberton amidst the backdrop of the Karri forest, the hip aquatic playground of Bunbury, the historic coastal retreat Albany, Carnarvon and the scenic Coastal Bay, the coastal playground Geraldton, the outback mining haven of Kalgoorlie, the exquisite beaches and friendly dolphins frolicking in the bay in Esperance, and the easy access to spectacular national parks from Karratha.

VICTORIA
With travel now permitted across regional Victoria, there are great getaways for the taking. If the Great Ocean Road is your thing, with its majestic cliffs and strong seascapes, be sure to consider Apollo Bay, Port Campbell or Best Western’s three hotels in Warrnambool, including Best Western Olde Maritime, Best Western Tudor and Best Western Colonial Village.

To the north and east, country escapes abound. Ballarat is renowned for its gold rush heritage and wonderful architecture, while the historic city of Bendigo is a thriving hub of arts and culture with two Best Westerns, Best Western Crystal Inn and Best Western Cathedral. Further north, there’s the distinctly Mediterranean climate of Swan Hill amidst wineries and bushwalking terrain, or experience the Australian Outback at Mildura, moments away from the Murray River.

The stunning Gippsland Lakes in Sale are worth exploring, along with nearby Ninety Mile Beach. For those who prefer picturesque tree-lined streets and lovely gardens, Traralgon is another great option.

NEW ZEALAND
Dubbed the coolest little capital in the world by Lonely Planet, Wellington offers a foodies paradise with a blend of cultural, historic and natural attractions. The geothermal springs and pools, boundless greenery and historic Maori villages will draw you to Rotorua, while Auckland’s multi-cultural hub of food, music, arts and culture is served by three Best Western hotels, Best Western Newmarket Inn & Suites, Best Western Ellerslie International and Best Western BK’s Pioneer Motor Lodge.

On the South Island, Dunedin boasts castles and pyramids, wildlife and beaches, while Christchurch uniquely combines urban regeneration with heritage and culture.
