Mr Sokoun Chanpreda, Managing Director of Hospitality Management and Development Asia (HMD Asia) and owner of Shinta Mani Hotels, is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Joni Aker as General Manager of their first managed property, Treeline Urban Resort, opening on 1 November 2018.

Located on the banks of the Siem Reap River, Treeline Urban Resort will have 48 keys comprising 36 rooms and 12 suites, together with modern culinary outlets and a trendy rooftop pool and bar. The name is inspired by the majestic Angkorian trees that line pathways and are scattered across the last vestige of the Angkor Empire.

A native New Zealander, Joni has extensive management experience in operations across a wide range of fields, including the luxury hospitality sector, most recently as Cruise director for Aqua Expeditions operating on the Mekong between Cambodia and Vietnam and on the Amazon in Peru.

Joni is extremely well travelled, having spent several years living and working abroad, 8 of which have been in Cambodia. Along with a desire to provide spectacular service and memorable experiences for her guests, Joni has a deep passion for Cambodia and philanthropy, making her the ideal candidate to manage this chic new property which will support and promote local artistic talent within the community through its Treeline Art Foundation.

“I am thrilled to be joining HMD Asia and to have this opportunity to be at the helm of their first managed property,” said Joni.  “Treeline Urban Resort will add an innovative urban style to the local hotel scene in Siem Reap. The property is quite unique – sophisticated, vibrant and modern yet manages to encompass the importance of our natural surrounds and the fantastic growing arts scene in Cambodia. I am excited not only by the property itself and building an amazing team to run it, but by being able to promote the incredible artistic talent found locally and to actively play a part in ensuring the improvement and protection of our surrounding natural environment.”
