Hotel Las Torres celebrates their most inclusive summer season to date

Hotel Las Torres, an experiential property situated within the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile, is pleased to announce that the summer season of 2018/2019 has been their most inclusive yet, with two accessible tourism initiatives helping to reduce barriers to intrepid travel for adventurous people living with disabilities or impairments.

In late December of 2018, Hotel Las Torres welcomed Australian Paralympic medallist, Chris Alp and his wife, Aileen to Torres del Paine National Park in Chile to experience the famous W Trail.

While Aileen has always loved trekking and Chris is an accomplished Paralympian, this was the very first time they had embarked on an adventure of this kind together.

To bring the couple’s dream of hiking the W Trail to life, Hotel Las Torres assisted with accommodation and operations for a tailor-made program designed by Wheel the World, a tour operator specialising in tailored adventure experiences for travellers with disabilities or impairments.

By incorporating ground transport, kayaking and adaptive equipment including a trekking wheelchair, Chris and his wife were able to experience some of the most impressive landscapes along the W Trail, including the famous Grey Glacier and striking peaks of Los Cuernos.

In addition to this inspirational visit, Hotel Las Torres also supported the very first group of people with impairments or disabilities to complete the “O” Circuit, the park’s longest and most challenging trekking route.

This ambitious yet rewarding expedition was organised by Ayuwn Foundation, a social organisation that seeks to promote inclusive sports spaces and contribute to the psychological and emotional rehabilitation of people living with disabilities or impairments.

Mauricio Kusanovic, member of the executive board at Hotel Las Torres said, “We are very proud to have been part of this wonderful milestone, putting the important topic of inclusion on the table, one which fits with our values. We hope we can continue to transmit this message in the future.”
