How Guided Travel Resets The Balance For Local Women Around The World

Trafalgar is gearing up to celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March by supporting the official #BalanceforBetter movement and raising awareness for women’s empowerment in local communities across the world.

With a growing number of over 80 JoinTrafalgar initiatives exclusive to their itineraries, with many experiences directly supporting female-focused organisations or communities, the global leader in guided holidays shows no signs of slowing when it comes to creating travel experiences that strive for gender parity.

According to our ongoing market research, there is a rising trend amongst conscious travellers seeking holidays that incorporate a strong social element, and a correlation between the positive upliftment of women in local communities and responsible travel initiatives,” says Gavin Tollman, Trafalgar Global CEO.

Women have always played an equal role in our company network, from the female business owners of many Be My Guest experiences, to our employees both on and off the road,” says Gavin Tollman, Trafalgar Global CEO. “We’re particularly proud of our JoinTrafalgar initiatives that empower female artisans, and we’ve seen an ongoing trend in conscious travellers actively seeking experiences aimed at uplifting women in local communities. Our unique offering fulfils this.”

From meeting the women farmers of Rameshwar village in India to working side-by-side with the Turkish women in the vineyards of Demircidere, Trafalgar’s guided holidays effortlessly connect travellers to women who are sustaining the livelihoods of their family and preserving their culture and traditions.

By encouraging more women to host and interact with foreign visitors through Trafalgar’s carefully curated range of Be My Guest, Dive into Culture and Stays with Stories experiences, we have helped women regain a stronger foothold in their communities and revive their culture and traditions which they delight in sharing with our guests. Many of these elements of their guided holidays are completely organised and run by women, who have been encouraged to take full ownership of their skills and knowledge.

Supporting the #BalanceforBetter movement, Trafalgar’s initiatives with women have been successfully enhanced by the framework of their parent foundation, TreadRight. This is to ensure that female artisans and entrepreneurs are supported long-term, in an ethical and sustainable way.

Across the world, TreadRight support and empower female artisans, giving them the tools, training and self-belief to believe in their crafts, and to believe in themselves. They work with women to help them realise their potential, connecting them to a global market where they can sell, earn, and build a future filled with hope,” says Celine Cousteau, TreadRight Ambassador.

One such example is the support that the women of Wadi Seer in Jordan receive from the Iraq Al-Amir Cooperative Society. As part of the JoinTrafalgar programme, guests have an opportunity to visit the on-site Handicrafts Village and learn how this TreadRight-supported initiative helps to preserve the heritage of these women, while equipping them with the skills to increase their income and raise their standard of living.

Guided holidays with Trafalgar encourage travellers to develop a better connection to the world, instead of merely ticking off destinations one by one.

Companies like Trafalgar have become a proven catalyst for social change, helping to bridge the gender-gap in remote communities,” says Celine Cousteau, TreadRight Ambassador. “If you’re ready to support local women, celebrate International Women’s Day with Trafalgar to help us achieve #BalanceforBetter,” she concludes.
