So, congrats, you’ve secured yourself an interview in a fashion role! That’s the first tricky bit out of the way but now you must concentrate on prepping for your job interview. You need to make sure that you read up on the business, check their social media channels, consider questions they might ask you and, last but not least, you need to get an outfit together that is going to make them remember you. This is the fashion industry, so of course, you need to dress to impress to make a lasting impression.

Whilst there are many different roles within the fashion industry, and each company will differ, the likelihood is that there will be more of an emphasis on how employees present themselves. After all, their team represent the business, and the business is in fashion. Some places will be more casual than others, so if you are unsure, then you shouldn’t hesitate to get in touch regarding the dress code. It shows you are thoughtful and making the effort.

Here we are going to look at different items to focus on to really make a statement in your interview…

Footwear

With your choice of shoes, the most important thing is that you can walk with confidence in them. Some would go as far as to say that shoes are the most important part of an outfit, and that you can tell a lot about a person by what they are wearing on their feet. Don’t overlook this, thinking that they will be concealed under a desk. If you really want to turn heads and give yourself some height, whilst also keeping your balance, check out these platform shoes from Novo for some inspiration. You could consider brogues, boots or loafers too. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and that you are staying true to your style. However, always ensure that the shoes you do choose are in good condition and clean. Shabby chic is often a no-no when it comes to professional interviews.

Face mask

2020 has brought us a whole new way of accessorizing with the welcoming of face masks – thank you COVID-19. If you are going into an office for an interview, there is a good chance that you will need a face mask. There are loads of cute, quirky options online for these, which are much more eye-catching than the standard surgeon-esque masks. You could even have a stab at making your own, as this will not only be a conversation starter, but it will show off your creative flair for fashion.

Jacket

Depending on your area and the weather, you might want to take a jacket or coat into consideration. A smart blazer can do wonders for your image and it will be one of the first things people notice about you. The perfect accompaniment to those power poses!

Whilst these 3 items will all play a part in the impression that you give in your interview, the most important thing is that you feel great and that your outfit is a representation of you. That’s the wonderful thing about fashion – it is a way of expressing yourself. Whether you want to showcase splashes of colours or you wish to keep it minimalist, just ensure that you aren’t trying to be somebody that you’re not for the sake of the interview.
