HSBC Insurance is teaming up with Hong Kong Golf Association (HKGA) to bring the “HSBC Insurance Hour” initiative to local primary schools and the wider community by offering free golf lessons, in support of HSBC’s commitment to promoting and enhancing accessibility to the sport.

Sponsored and organised by HSBC Insurance in collaboration with HKGA, the five-day “HSBC Insurance Hour” initiative drove into action today at Yan Oi Tong Tin Ka Ping Primary School with more than 100 students who are new to the sport of golf. Ms. Agnes Chan, Chief Customer Officer Hong Kong of HSBC Insurance and Mr. Danny Lai, Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Golf Association joined the students at the “HSBC Insurance Hour” launch to tee off the initiative with the “HSBC Golf for Schools Week”. Throughout the week, more than 1,000 students from 15 primary schools will be given ShortGolf training – a new and unique “first touch” training system which makes it fun and easy to teach and learn golf at school.

“HSBC Insurance is excited to support the group’s commitment in making the sport more accessible through the HSBC Insurance Hour. Hong Kong is our spiritual home and we are hoping to inspire more talent in the city to reach their full potential.

“Accessibility plays a key role in the growth of the sport and we are keen to provide the opportunity for Hong Kong people to get involved and try out the sport. The initiative not only embodies the group’s commitment in promoting the sport but also helps us to connect with the local community through grassroots participation in golf,” says Ms. Agnes Chan, Chief Customer Officer Hong Kong of HSBC Insurance.

“We are delighted to work with HSBC Insurance and play a part in the “HSBC Insurance Hour” this year,” says Danny Lai, Chief Executive Officer of the HKGA. “HSBC’s long-term support is essential for us to promote the sport, especially through the ShortGolf training in primary schools. We look forward to inspiring the next generation of golfers.”

HSBC has always been committed to driving forward the growth of golf in Hong Kong by providing a structured pathway for children to learn the basics of golf and begin their lifelong journey in the sport. The programme includes the HSBC Golf For Schools initiative which introduces primary school students to basic golf skills through ShortGolf. Shortlisted participants will progress to the Real Golf Clinic and can then potentially move onto the HSBC Junior Development Programme that offers professional training and opportunities to represent Hong Kong on the regional stage.

This year, the HSBC Golf For Schools Programme has reached a milestone with 24 students, including students from the host school Yan Oi Tong Tin Ka Ping Primary School, attending the ShortGolf training then successfully progressing to the Real Golf Clinic. The Junior Squad members Isabella Leung, Michelle Cheung, Jonathan Lai and Arianna Lau also joined the launch event to pass on their learnings and experience to the participants. HSBC Golf For Schools initiative is currently active in 28 local primary schools.

Members of the public will also be offered two one-hour free golf coaching sessions at Whitehead Golf Club Driving Range this Saturday (23 June), to further enhance HSBC’s belief in golf being “Anyone’s Game”. Participants aged 6 years old and above will have the chance to learn some basic skills under the guidance of professional coaches’.
