Everything from the impact of Brexit to growth in epic, more rarified experiences, active wellness holidays, plant filled hotel rooms and holidays that comply with the increasing demands of environmentally conscious children are being discussed at World Travel Market in London.

According to the European Tourism Association, the impact of Brexit is already being felt as the fear of the end of freedom of movement for members is stopping them from coming to the UK for work. ETOA is also pushing its 2020 vision of better tourism in Europe as it seeks a more sustainable business environment amid concerns about overtourism.

Epic holidays are designed for people who want a whole lot more out of a holiday than a tan – holidays that involve intense levels of logistic nous and imagination from the organisers. As luxury travel has become more mainstream, travellers are looking for more rarified experiences – for instance a four night “luxpedition” by Brown & Hudson to harvest cacao in the depths of the Ecuadorian jungle. Another itinerary offers a cannabis tour of British Columbia by helicopter. Wellness continues to be a significant theme for affluent travellers. According to April Hutchinson, TTG Luxury Editor, people are paying 4500 pounds to go to Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop Health Summit. https://goop.com/ingoophealth/

It seems there is also a new focus on sleep quality by hotels. The Zed rooms concept by Cuckooz in the UK offers stays in duplex apartments with Simba’s hybrid mattress, sleep friendly treats in the fridge, a calming classical soundtrack and a pillow spray.

Meanwhile it seems children are not prepared to stay silent about climate change and are taking their parents to task about their travel choices.

Finally the push for clean air and any connection with nature. In London, a new brand Treehouse opened in November with a plethora of plants in every room.
