In delicious news, Brisbane Airport’s Skygate precinct will be home to the iconic Strawberry Sundae over two long weekends in August, with a pop-up store and pickup point to be located within Skygate Home & Life.
Strawberry Sundaes have long been an integral part of The Royal Brisbane Show (Ekka), providing an unmistakable taste while also generating funds for critical medical research.
With the Ekka cancelled this year due to COVID19, several businesses have stepped up alongside The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation’s research fundraising arm, The Common Good, to find new and exciting ways to bring the Strawberry Sundae experience to ice cream lovers.
Brisbane Airport is proud to be one of them.
From Friday 7 to Sunday 9 August and Friday 14 to Sunday 16 August, people will be able to purchase an iconic Strawberry Sundae from the pop-up store between 10am and 6pm.
There is also an opportunity to pre-order DIY Strawberry Sundae Packs of 20 or 100 between now and 23 July, to be picked up from Skygate Home & Life on either 7, 8, 10, 11 or 12 August.
Brisbane Airport will be the ultimate pop-up location, giving inner north Brisbane locals and visitors alike the chance to grab a sundae while enjoying access to more than 160 retailers across Skygate, Skygate Home & Life and DFO.
BAC CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff said a lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to make this a reality, with BNE staff volunteering to scoop the ice creams,
“In these unusual and trying times, our airport family as a whole has come together and exhibited our core values of collaboration, communication, courage and care while finding new and innovative ways to support one another and the wider community.
“I am excited and delighted that the Skygate Precinct has been selected as one of the pop-up and pickup locations across the greater Brisbane area, as we are able to come together and help our community again.
“We are bringing the very best of the Ekka to Brisbane Airport, and we are supporting valuable medical research at the same time,” Mr de Graaff said.
The Common Good CEO Michael Hornby said the support of Brisbane Airport and the Skygate Precinct shows true Queensland spirit and offers a chance for the community to join the fight against COVID in a practical way.
“This is a unique opportunity we hope the people of Brisbane will get behind,” said Mr Hornby.
“The Ekka is one of the most important fundraising efforts for us and this year the show must go on in a different way to ensure our team can continue their life-saving medical research, including work towards combatting COVID-19.
“We’re calling on everyone to pre-order your packs now from The Common Good website or plan a visit to Skygate from August 7 to grab a Strawberry Sundae for a good cause.”
