One of Australia’s most successful advocates for diversity – the world’s first professional supermodel with Down Syndrome – Madeline Stuart, has cruised to Melbourne on board P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Explorer for Cup Day.

Almost 2000 guests on P&O’s flagship had the opportunity to see Brisbane-born Madeline open the cruise line’s highly anticipated ‘Fashions at Sea’ catwalk show.

More than 20 local and international designers and brands including Leona Edmiston, Allanah Hill, Swarovski, Nicola Finetti and Sportscraft showcased this year’s racing finery at P&O’s biggest fashion show in recent history. The production was created by esteemed Australian fashion stylist to the stars, Fernando Barraza and renowned choreographer, Amé Delves.

Carnival Australia Chairman Ann Sherry said P&O Cruises was proud to have the high calibre and globally recognised model Madeline Stuart as the headline act for this year’s fashion show.

“This year P&O celebrates 49 years of cruising to the cup and as a modern Australian cruise brand we support diversity and inclusion in society and appreciate the differences that people such as Madeline bring,” Mrs Sherry said.

“We support Madeline’s quest in challenging society’s perception of people with disabilities and we’re excited to be able to share her fashion expertise and modelling experience with our valued guests at one of P&O’s most popular cruises.”

Rosanne Stuart, Manager of Madeline Stuart said “Over the past few years Diversity has been taking giant strides forward with representation and inclusion in the commercial sector and I could not be prouder as an Australian to see our country also heading in this direction.

We are so excited to be working with Australia’s own P&O cruise line and so proud that such an amazing brand is taking a stand and leading Australia towards a more diverse, united society.”

Nearly 6000 guests departed Pacific Explorer and Pacific Eden from Sydney and Pacific Dawn from Brisbane to enjoy a jam-packed line up of fashion-themed activities including workshops hosted by one of Melbourne’s most in-demand milliners Kim Fletcher.

Racing enthusiasts heard from experts including jockey and twice-winner of the Melbourne Cup John Letts and legendary track-work rider Joe Agresta known for his success with renowned Australian racing family, the Cummings.

Celebrations will continue after the race itself when guests onboard Pacific Explorer will be treated to a live set from X Factor Australia duo Jess & Matt.

Guests looking to maintain their winning streak will also get the chance to participate in P&O’s signature onboard annual seahorse racing event where thousands of dollars will be up for grabs in a sweepstake race.

With accommodation and meals all included in the cruise fare plus transfers and entry to the races, cruising to the Melbourne Cup with P&O is a great value way to experience the race that captures the attention of Australians nationwide
