Captain Cook Cruises in Fiji employ a team of female Marine Biologists who are proud to be able to celebrate International Women in Science day on 11th February.

The team have been focused on an expansion of their sustainability programs with the reef at Tivua island – The Captain Cook Cruises Coral Rejuvenation Program.  The “buy a coral – build a reef” coral rejuvenation program was launched in July last year to promote the seeding and growth of the coral reef surrounding Tivua.  Guests are able to actively participate by buying a coral frag and planting it in the reef. All funds raised go towards funding Captain Cook Cruises’ Coral Rejuvenation Program dedicated to protecting and developing the health of Fiji’s famously beautiful reefs.

Tivua Island is surrounded by 500 acres of coral reef. The area has benefited greatly from the extensive work by Captain Cook’s team of Marine Biologists while the borders have been closed. Coral planting, and monitoring and rejuvenation of on land plant life, have been priorities.

Captain Cook Cruises is a leader in sustainable tourism and reef education in Fiji with their team of mainly female Marine Biologists providing ongoing education to guests both on Tivua Island as well as when cruising on the Reef Endeavour. Through their Ocean Ambassador program rubbish has been collected from beaches around Fiji during the Reef Endeavour itineraries that stretch as far as Sawa-i-lau & Kia island in the north and the outer reaches of the Lau group visiting more than 90 of Fiji’s 330 islands. Rubbish is collected by the Ocean Ambassadors, part of their regular crew, sorted, weighed, recorded and recycled. Passengers enjoy getting involved with the program as well.

Captain Cook Cruises weekend and holiday cruises to Tivua Island and Nukulau island, with their Suva Sailings, and aboard Reef Endeavour to the Yasawa, over the festive season were a great success. Weekend and monthly local’s cruises are available on going.  This has provided the opportunity for the “Woman In Science” marine biology team to continue their work at Tivua island and has also shown the locals some of the most amazing marine environments Fiji has to offer.

The Nukulau day cruise from Suva and the Tivua Day cruise from Denarau departs Saturdays and Sundays and provide an incredible experience of the underwater world with snorkelliing included and diving available. A fresh tropical lunch and entertainment from their crew round off a great experience afloat.

The Reef Endeavour is operating a revised 5 night itinerary to Levuka, Savusavu & Taveuni and another 7 night exploring the incredible Lau islands in April & May for locals. These cruises also provide amazing underwater & cultural experiences with snorkelling, glass bottom boat tours, island walks and lectures from our marine biologist as well as all meals and accommodation included in the fare.

Guests can rest assured that Captain Cook Cruises have implemented a company wide policy of strict cleaning, hygiene and health protocols to ensure the safety of its passengers. They have also been full certified as part of the Care Fiji Commitment industry program.
