Spread the love

Organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), the Istanbul Music Festival participates in the Festivals for Compassion project, an initiative of Festival Wonderfeel in the Netherlands to foster solidarity within the international classical music industry during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Within the scope of Festivals for Compassion, 54 international music festivals that responded to the call present their own version of the new composition by the Greek-Dutch composer Calliope Tsoupaki called Thin Air, which was composed during the lockdown. After each festival selects their own artist and instrument, various versions of the work, which has begun its journey in Europe with the performances shared by the Holland Festival, Wonderfeel Festival and Festival Classique as of 20 June, will be performed in the digital festival project, which will run into 2021. The Istanbul Music Festival joined the Festivals for Compassion on Monday, 26 October 2020 with the performance by the qanun virtuoso Hakan Güngör. Hakan Güngör’s performance can be streamed on the website of Festivals for Compassion and İKSV’s YouTube channel.

Besides the Istanbul Music Festival, the Festivals for Compassion project also welcomes famous international festivals such as the Holland Festival, Liszt Competition and London Festival of Baroque Music.
