It’s already time to start planning your trip to the International Malasimbo Music & Arts Festival in the Philippines.  Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2020, the annual festival will take place at La Mesa Eco Park, Quezon City, Manila from 29 February – 1 March 2020. Early Bird tickets are on sale now until 31 October 2019, with official tickets on sale from 1 November.

With excitement building, the first artist announcement has already been made, and to mark the impressive ten-year milestone, Mike Love and his band will be performing on 1 March 2020. Other acts include Project Yazz, Talata Ni Tala and Jesus Molina Quartet, with more yet to be announced.  Growing in popularity each year, the festival expects to host approximately 2,500 people per day.

The Malasimbo Festival is a marquee open-air music festival featuring bands and electronic acts and previous year’s events have featured Hiatus Kaiyote, FKJ, and Jacob Collier.  The festival aims to bring international and local acts together on one stage while promoting the value of environmental sustainability.  At Malasimbo there is no plastic, the food is served in coconut shells and banana leaves and the cutlery is made from corn starch to help sustain and protect the environment.

Miro Grgic, the festival’s founder and director is also an Australian who now lives in the Philippines.  Passionate about music, Miro studied to become a Sound Engineer and a Manager in Queensland.  Whilst working in Manila, he was inspired by local musicians and decided to create the annual festival to boost the local music scene.

Norjamin Delos Reyes, Tourism Attaché at Philippines Department of Tourism Australia and New Zealand, said,

“The Philippines now hosts more festivals, concerts and events than ever before, helping to attract a diverse range of travellers to our beautiful country.  Malasimbo is a particularly special event and the whole experience is a celebration of good music whilst maximising the natural and quality acoustics of the beautiful location. The venue, arts and local culture are integral to the overall magic that attendees will experience as soon as they arrive. We look forward to welcoming new and returning festival goers as they discover how much the Philippines has to offer.”
