Japan Airlines (JAL), a recognized Eco-First company by the Ministiry of Environment of Japan, today announced its commitment to invest in and accelerate the development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) conversion technology.

Based on the CO2 emissions standard set by the ICAO to reduce the impact of aviation greenhouse gas emmisions, JAL will form a strategic partnership with the Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport & Urban Development (JOIN) and Marubeni Corporation, and invest in Fulcrum BioEnergy, Inc., to jointly develop SAF for the aviation sector. Through this action, JAL Group aims to realize the operation of an aircraft utilizing SAF technology and fulfill the targets outlined in the company`s Medium Term Management Plan – to actively contribute and tackle Global Sustainable Development Goals. JAL’s share of the investment amount was 900 million yen.
