They say that Kakadu barramundi tastes like a million dollars, but a new Kakadu fishing package offers a chance for fishing enthusiasts to take home both a barra and a million dollars cash.

The Million Dollar Fish has six tagged barramundi worth $1 million each. No angler is yet to claim one of the million dollar tagged fish, though many of the $10,000 tagged barramundi have been snared, including a number of them in the waters around Kakadu.

Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel has launched a ‘Fishing Escape’ package.

Located in Jabiru in the heart of Kakadu, the hotel provides the closest full-service accommodation to the popular South Alligator River fishing spot, renowned for its flow of barramundi. The Croc (as the Mercure is known) is also convenient to Yellow Water Billabong, another prime fishing spot.

The ‘Fishing Escape’ package includes a range of extras, is priced from $149 per night per couple, and is valid for stays up till 31 March.

Sanctuary Tambarare: mod-cons aplenty.

Sanctuary Retreats has added to its portfolio of African luxury camps and lodges.

Scheduled to open in July, Sanctuary Tambarare is nestled amongst fever trees in the shadow of Mount Kenya, in Kenya’s Laikipia County, north-east of Nairobi.

And its name is entirely apt. ‘Tambarare’ means ‘plains’ in Swahili, and the camp overlooks the grassy plateau of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy — some 90,000 acres of unspoilt African landscape, home to the highest density of wildlife in Kenya outside the Maasai Mara.

The 10 luxurious canvas tents each feature sumptuous super-king beds and ensuites replete with walk-in showers and double basins, as well as their own private verandas overlooking the grassy plains.
