WHAT

Every year for the past 10 years, the JW Marriott Marco Island has held the Paradise Golf Charities Classic at one of their golf courses, raising money for their many charitable partners. This event brings the community together with golf, amazing food and drinks, as well as a silent auction, featuring exotic trips that participants can bid on.

As a result of the 2019 Paradise Golf Charities Classic, the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort recently announced they have raised $150,000 for charitable partners like Harry Chapin Food Bank, the Marco Island YMCA, the American Cancer Society, the Marco Island Historical Society, Habitat for Humanity, the Optimist Club of Marco Island, Ngala Wildlife Sanctuary as well as local schools.

The annual event serves as part of Marriott’s brand initiative Serve 360. The philanthropic effort Serve 360 encourages Marriott locations and employees to “Do Good in Every Direction.”

With brand initiatives driving the resort as a whole, the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort continues to be the most significant community supporter on Marco Island year after year. In 2018, the JW Marriott Marco Island Annual Paradise Charities Golf Classic raised $130,000 for local philanthropic efforts. Over the span of the ten years, JW Marriott Marco Island has raised over $1 million in net proceeds to the aforementioned charities in the community.

The JW Marriott Marco Island’s General Manager of Golf Operations is the driving force behind these dynamic fundraising successes, hosting their two largest fundraisers at the resort’s golf clubs each year: the Paradise Charities Golf Classic and the Champions for a Cure Tournament. Chris Major was recently recognized by the American Cancer Society Southwest Florida Board of Directors in for his exceptional leadership and relentless pursuit of their mission impact through fundraising for the American Cancer Society.
