The Limestone Coast is set to benefit from the economic impact and legacy bought about by hosting the Sustainable Economic Growth for Regional Australia (SEGRA) Conference in September 2020.

SEGRA is Australia’s premier conference on regional issues and with some 250 delegates from across the nation expected to attend the business event, the successful bid submission presented in April by the Limestone Coast Local Govt. Association (LCLGA) and the Adelaide Convention Bureau will provide a much welcomed boost to the local economy.

Executive Officer, LCLGA Tony Wright said “a dedicated team worked tirelessly to achieve success and ensure we met the extensive criteria required to host this event. The LCLGA and its regional stakeholders are thrilled to proudly support hosting next year’s event in the Limestone Coast”.

“The LCLGA, through the Limestone Coast Economic Development Group have invested significant effort in recent years to chart a course for sustainable economic development in this region, adopting an approach that is consistent with the aims and objectives of the SEGRA Conference.”

President of the LCLGA, Mayor Erika Vickery, OAM agrees “it is now time for the Limestone Coast and the greater Green Triangle to share its story and contribute to the broader national conversation. This national conference will also provide the opportunity for the region to have access to the experts that present and participate at SEGRA, Australia’s most credible independent voice on issues affecting regional Australia.”

Tourism visitation across the Limestone Coast has experienced incredible growth over the past 5 years and the SEGRA conference will be a great way to show delegates, first-hand, the visitor appeal of this incredible South Australian region.

The SEGRA conference provides an opportunity for all sectors to explore the key issues affecting regional, rural and remote Australia and be part of providing positive sustainable outcomes to ensure future prosperity.

“We intend to make the most of hosting a national conference of this calibre in the Limestone Coast and the opportunity to showcase our abundant natural resources, quality exports and diverse industries” said Ms Vickery.

Congratulations to the Limestone Coast Local Government Association (LCLGA) and the bid partners on securing this national conference for the region. As part of the Marshall Liberal Government’s election commitments we undertook to broaden the scope of the Convention Bid Fund to allow regional locations access to funding.

This strategy is paying dividends and is allowing regional areas to secure national conferences which in turn delivers important economic activity into the local community.

The Government is proud to be able to support the regions and recognises the huge contribution they make to the South Australian visitor economy. Around 43 cents in every tourism dollar is generated in the regions so having thriving regional communities is critical to the state achieving our 2030 tourism expenditure target of $12.8 billion

Business events play a vital role in driving economic growth through trade and investment opportunities in the State. We have no doubt this business event in attracting some 250 visitors to the region will deliver an immediate economic benefit to the local community as well as long term benefits thanks to the all- important legacies these events deliver after the last delegate has departed. Congratulations to the team at the LCLGA in securing this prestigious business event.

The LCLGA thanks the planning committee and partners, The Adelaide Convention Bureau, University of South Australia, Beach Energy and RDA Limestone Coast and RDA Barwon South West.
