Your children will LOVE helping to operate the boat, turning the locks and exploring the villages. River cruising in your own boat at your own pace is a wonderful experience to have with the family.Le Boat’s pick of family friendly destinations include:

The Rideau Canal, Canada

A relaxed approach to life and friendly locals makes Canada the perfect cruising region for families. The Rideau Lakes in particular are packed with spots for water sports, swimming and fishing – a great way to keep the kids (and adults) entertained. The traditional hand-operated locks on the Rideau Canal are also manned by teams of Parks Canada employees that makes the locks not only extremely safe and easy to use, but lots of fun. Finally, after an action packed day moor up at one of the charming local towns and villages. Here you’ll find child friendly activities and events hosted throughout the year, as well as restaurants with a relaxed atmosphere that is perfect for the whole family.

The Thames, England

The famous River Thames winds its way around countless parks and picnic spots, such as Pangbourne Meadows, excellent places to moor up and have a picnic, enjoy a game of cricket and generally let off steam. For an action packed day of family fun, located right next to our base in Chertsey is Thorpe Park where plenty of white-knuckle excitement, while near Windsor, Legoland will captivate the younger ones with lots of fantastical fun. Just a short train ride away is an exciting day exploring England’s famous capital city. Take a flight on the London Eye, see the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London and have some spooky fun at the London Dungeons.  The wonderful city of Oxford, can also be visited by boat, and is only 12 miles from Le Boat’s base in Benson.

Friesland-Amsterdam, The Netherlands

The water is a way of life in Holland, a nation born of the sea and the rivers that flow across its pastoral flat lands. You will cruise leisurely past turning windmills, fields of colourful tulips, quaint villages, cosmopolitan cities and it will usher you into a realm unique in boating.

Kids will love the cycling and watersports in the Netherlands. Holland isn’t known for its hills, making it ideal for bicycle tours in Friesland-Amsterdam. Cruise past fields of tulips and rustic-looking restored windmills. Stop in a waterside village for steamed mussels or oysters on the half-shell.

For watersports, the Lakeland district is famous throughout Europe. Boating is not just a pastime in Friesland-Amsterdam, it’s a way of life. Check out the watersports hires in Sneek and Grouw. Canoe, kayak, jet ski and sail.  Le Boat has a base in Hindeloopen in this region, as well as a base in Vinkeveen, South of Amsterdam.
