Maison Libanaise Welcomes Jad Youssef Renowned Lebanese Expert Takes The Helm At Soho Hot-Spot

Black Sheep Restaurants is excited to announce Jad Youssef, one of the world’s top Lebanese chefs, as the new Executive Chef at its popular Lebanese restaurant, Maison Libanaise. Youssef takes over from Chef James Harrison, who, after two years at Maison Libanaise, is working on new projects within the group.

Beirut-born Youssef has the flavours and recipes of Lebanon in his blood. Between helping his mother make home-cooked meals and assisting his father at work in his pastry shop, Youssef grew up in the kitchen and has made it his mission to share his rich heritage. After completing his culinary training in Oslo, Youssef embarked on his restaurant career working in top kitchens around Europe.

Following his dream of sharing the dishes from his culture, Youssef founded Yalla Yalla, a Beirut street-food joint serving Lebanese and Middle Eastern cuisine in 2008 in London’s SoHo neighbourhood. Yalla Yalla, lauded for its informal and approachable setting yet high-level of technical proficiency, became the capital’s most successful Lebanese restaurant brand with three branches across the city.

Youssef, an alum of Celebrity Master Chef UK, is celebrated as one of the foremost experts on Lebanese food for his reverence for traditional dishes while making the cuisine relevant to the current dining landscape. His rustic, authentic cooking is exemplified in Sawda Djej, his rendition of Beirut’s simple dish of chicken liver in pomegranate molasses, which gained cult status after Time Out London named it one of ‘The Best 100 Dishes in London.’

Hong Kong diners can now enjoy Sawda Djej (HK$108) at Maison Libanaise, where it appears on the Le Salon restaurant menu alongside other new additions from Chef Youssef including a vegetable Moussaka (HK$148) of baked eggplant, warm feta and chickpea in cumin and mint-spiked tomato sauce plus the chef’s hearty Mashawi (HK$338) platter of chargrilled meats, available exclusively on weekend nights.

Youssef joins Black Sheep Restaurants’ impressive roster of talented chefs around the globe who maintain the highest level of excellence in their cuisines, including Michelin-starred Palash Mitra at New Punjab Club (from India and of Gymkhana), Daniel Calvert at BELON (from U.K. and of Per Se, The Ivy, Pied à Terre and Epicure at Le Bristol), Jowett Yu at Ho Lee Fook (from Vancouver/Taiwan of Ms. G’s, Tetsuya) and Bao La, Le Garçon Saigon (from Australia and of Ms. G’s).
