Leading eco-travel company Majestic Whale Encounters has announced it will launch a local wildlife experience in 2021, adding a family friendly Kangaroo Island tour to its offering next March. Created specifically for local travellers, the itinerary showcases the best of the island commonly known as nature’s playground with the company’s renowned up-close-and-personal wildlife encounters still at the fore.

When COVID instantly put all of Majestic’s usual international wildlife experiences on hold indefinitely earlier this year, Founders Carmen Ellis and Sarah Cullen pivoted to bring a long-held dream to life – writing a children’s book about whales. The release of this book, Nellie the Narwhal, and the incredible response to it, further inspired the two women who started putting together an animal experience closer to home that children would enjoy as much as adults.

After months of planning and working around border restrictions, Majestic’s South Australian adventure will focus on small group experiences, with no more than 12 people at a time to traverse through the state’s wildlife sanctuary and its natural and rugged beauty. The itinerary includes a day trip to the untamed and iconic Flinders Chase National Park and Seal Bay, where traveller can observe the New Zealand Fur Seals lazing – but far from just watching, it wouldn’t be a true Majestic tour without travellers exploring the depths of the ocean themselves. Spending two full days on a privately charted boat, guests will also have the magical opportunity to swim with wild bottle nose dolphins along the North Coast of Kangaroo Island.

True to Majestic’s travel philosophy of giving back to the communities to which they travel, their latest local trip is no exception. For every guest that books the tour, Majestic will make a donation to the KI Mayoral Relief and recovery bush fire fund, which is helping to rebuild Kangaroo Island after the devastating bushfires of the 2019/20 summer.

Already known for their unique and eco-led tours that take small groups around the world to encounter animals in their natural habitats, Founder of Majestic Whale Encounters, Carmen Ellis, says the company’s expansion into Australian based animal encounters is a logical step for the business for several reasons.

“Our core goal is to educate and raise awareness of the animals that we interact with, and their plight,” she explains. “Whilst the ocean and whales in particular are at the heart of the business, the need to further expand understanding of other animal populations that are at risk is driving us to diversify our offering. We are committed to educating travellers about the impact that we have on our environment, and the best way to do that is to bring people face to face with what it is we stand to lose. There is nothing quite like a face to face encounter with an incredible animal in their own habitat to really make people understand what is at stake.”

The Kangaroo Island trip will take place in late 2021, with registrations of interest now open.

Pricing for the all-inclusive trip (excluding flights) start from $4,850 AUD.
