In a major new partnership for the Great Barrier Reef, collaborative movement Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef (Citizens), and award-winning marine film content producers Biopixel, have announced a strategic alliance to further promote the protection and conservation of this prized natural asset.http://www.germany.travel/en/index.html

The Alliance will see the two organisations working together to deliver compelling, inspiring and educational content to drive engagement in conservation of the Great Barrier Reef.

Biopixel’s world-class ocean cinematography and Oceanpedia educational resources will be integrated across Citizens’ new Citizens Atlas platform, which for the first time ever, showcases projects happening all along the Reef and invites people from around the world to explore and get involved.

Since its launch last year with Earth Hour founder Andy Ridley at the helm, Citizens has collaborated with conservation, tourism, school and media partners to build a global movement taking action for the Reef.

The new alliance will see Biopixel co-founder and one of Australia’s most successful tech entrepreneurs, Bevan Slattery, become Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef’s first Patron, and will see significant resources invested in developing Citizens’ unique digital platform.

“We love the cooperative approach that the Citizens project has taken,” Emmy award-winning cinematographer & Biopixel co-founder Richard Fitzpatrick said. “We see our partnership as an exciting opportunity to build an independent, credible and ambitious alliance to engage Australia and the world in the future of the Reef.”

CEO of Citizens Andy Ridley said, “The extraordinary images of the Great Barrier Reef filmed by Biopixel capture the hearts and minds of people across the planet; our partnership is all about converting that passion into action for the Reef.”

With the annual coral spawning taking place later this month, Citizens and Biopixel hope to capture this rare event, educate people about the spawning, and share the stories of the people out on the Reef with a global audience.

This follows up on Biopixel’s commitments to educating the world about the Reef and our oceans through their work on David Attenborough’s Great Barrier Reef series and their highly successful 3D IMAX movie narrated by Eric Bana, currently on release throughout the USA.
