For years the Maestro of Italian cuisine pursued his dream to open a restaurant on Lake Como. Following a suggestion from his friend, the sculptor Nicola Salvatore, during Spring in 2011, Marchesi visited Grand Hotel Tremezzo, the art nouveau icon of luxury hospitality on the western shore of the lake. From his first visit, an agreement was made with the De Santis family, owners of the beautiful hotel, and its long standing executive chef, Osvaldo Presazzi.

In the eight years following, a fruitful partnership has developed between Chef Presazzi and Marchesi’s team. With consistency and commitment, Daniel Canzian, Brendan Becht, Tiziano Rossetti and, in the past three years, Antonio Ghilardi have imparted the philosophy of Marchesi cookery to the Grand Hotel brigade; a philosophy the greatest representatives of modern Italian cuisine were trained in, including Carlo Cracco, Enrico Crippa, Pietro Leemann, Davide Oldani, Andrea Berton and Ernst Knam.

Last year the De Santis family decided to realize the Maestro’s dream and build a new kitchen: designed not only to be an organised, functional space to make the many hours the chefs spend at work more pleasant, it also reflects and highlights the elegance of the Grand behind-the-scenes. Materials of timeless charm take centre stage, such as Carrara marble, French red marble, Venetian terrazzo flooring and enameled ceramic walls embellished with copper. The crowning jewel is the panoramic view over the lake, offering boundless inspiration to the brigade of chefs working to delight their diners.

With the completion of the kitchens, the collaboration between the Gualtiero Marchesi Group and the Grand Hotel Tremezzo has come to the end of a journey which today celebrates the great cookery masterminded by the Maestro. With its breathtaking views over the Bellagio peninsula, the main restaurant at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo has reopened for the new season with a new concept and a new name. La Terrazza Gualtiero Marchesi has the honour of being the only restaurant in the world with a menu exclusively featuring the iconic Marchesi dishes that revolutionized Italian cuisine, making it the centre of international attention: from Risotto and Gold (with real gold leaf) and Open Ravioli to Grand Antipasto of Fish, Lobster and MaccheroniPollock-Inspired Dripping and Red and Black in Homage of Fontana, as well as all the other dishes, or as Marchesi called them, “works of art”, that evolve with the seasons. La Terrazza Gualtiero Marchesi celebrates the unassailable expertise of the Great Maestro of Italian cuisine and honours his talent by keeping his precious heritage alive.

The restaurant is currently open every evening until 10 November. It will open again in March 2020 when the hotel will open its doors for the new season.

The supervision of the restaurant has been entrusted to Enrico Dandolo, son-in-law of the Maestro and CEO of the Gualtiero Marchesi Group who delights guests with his presence.
