Some 370 delegates gather today at the Mekong Tourism Forum 2018 in Nakhon Phanom in Thailand. Under the theme “Transforming Travel, Transforming Lives”, the event will highlight community-based tourism and environmental problems in the GMS countries of Cambodia, China (Yunnan and Guangxi), Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam. The main attractions of Nakhon Phanom are the mountains on the other side of the Mekong River behind Thakhek in Laos, the former country house where Ho Chi Minh lived in the 1920s and the ancient pagoda of That Phanom south of the provincial city. Delegates will convene at the grounds of the University of Nakhon Phanom and will enjoy 4 days of networking, a mini film festival and a food fair. It was already announced that the next Tourism Forum 2019 will be in Yunnan, China, but it is still not sure, if the future event will be in Kunming, Lijiang or Jinghong in Xishuangbanna.
