The first flight connecting Australia to Guiyang, China, departs Melbourne tonightthanks to Sichuan Airlines.The carrier will operate one charter flight per week between Melbourne and Guiyang, before the same aircraft continues onto Chengdu.
Guiyang, the capital of the Guizhou Province, is now the 13th Chinese destination available from
Melbourne.
Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation David Hall said he was thrilled to add another Chinese city to
Melbourne Airport’s network.
“Opening up access to a new destination is exciting for Victorian travellers, and we are proud to be the first Australian airport to facilitate travel non-stop to Guiyang,” said Mr Hall.
“The city, located in the southwest of China, is surrounded by luscious mountains, has plenty of historical
appeal and offers spicy local cuisine making it a popular choice for tourists and domestic travel within China.
“China is now our largest source of passenger numbers and it continues to grow, so we know this service will fulfil a need, especially for inbound visitation.”
“In fact figures from November last year show visitation from China increased by almost 12 per cent
compared to November 2017, demonstrating strong traveller demand.”
Mr Hall said Melbourne Airport consistently led the Australian market in international passenger growth and boasts the highest international load numbers compared to all other Australian airports.
The Melbourne to Guiyang service will depart Melbourne Airport every Wednesday at 9:35pm.
