Spread the love

Continuing the momentum of Art Macao, the inaugural international arts and cultural mega-event under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, supported by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Macao Government Tourism Office, Melco presents ‘Journey’, a diverse selection of works inspired by the highly varied culture of anime. Forming part of Melco’s contribution to Art Macao: International Art Exhibition, this unique exhibition is a visual adventure that explores the evolution of contemporary Japanese anime from its beginnings rooted in ukiyo-e, the traditional art of Japanese woodblock print and painting.

The visual references of anime abound in Japan and beyond are seen as a visual signature of the nation.  Both the contemporary genres of anime and manga can trace their roots and influences in the woodblock artform of ukiyo-e and its Edo period heroes. Today, its influences can be readily identified in such varying media as computer games, toy culture, and the work of multimedia artists around the world. This first-of-a-kind exhibition for Studio City includes such highlights as Amanami Animated by MAP Office, Mr Waterloo by Rainbo,Waves in Time by Southbend, Blingee by Han Yanjuan, and the Modern Art of Floating World Collectionby Horihiro Mitomo and Ukiyoemon.

Mr. Lawrence Ho, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Melco Resorts & Entertainment commented, “Japanese arts and culture have been an inspiration of mine from a very young age, and it is an honor to celebrate the heritage, culture and arts of Japan with our guests in Macau. Following the success of ‘Unexpected Encounters’ at City of Dreams, we are thrilled to present another unique exhibition to Macau. This show at Studio City will hopefully connect inspiration and appreciation for our visitors. I particularly love the street art intervention by the two Japanese graffiti artists from Yokohama – it is a bold interpretation of strands that connect our two cities. We look forward to further supporting the development of Macau’s cultural lineage through City of Dreams’ ‘Unexpected Encounters’ and Studio City’s ‘Journey’”.

In addition to ‘Journey’, the installation of vibrant activations and cartoon characters designed by Hiroshi Yoshii have transformed Studio City’s main lobby into an exciting world of Japanese anime. A series of interactive anime experiences are available for guests throughout the property.
