Melco SME Academy supports local businesses and suppliers through challenging times

Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s Melco SME Academy was relaunched at an event at Studio City yesterday. Supported by Melco’s very own Learning Academy, the Melco SME Academy aims to help enhance small and medium enterprise (SME) prosperity and to help local businesses succeed. It is designed to help local SMEs become better equipped to face challenges and seize opportunities through a variety of training activities and business development initiatives. Melco SME Academy forms part of the Company’s longstanding commitment to SMEs for the sustainable development of Macau.

Mr. Geoff Andres, Property President, Studio City of Melco Resorts & Entertainment said, “Melco has long been committed to working together with local SMEs for the sustainable and diversified development of Macau. Under the Macau SAR government’s proactive and decisive leadership in containing the spread of the recent coronavirus outbreak, we see an opportunity for us to get together to restart the Melco SME Academy and its activities. We understand the current economic environment poses many challenges for SMEs. Established in 2017, the Melco SME Academy aims to provide local SMEs with additional technical knowledge, helping them become better equipped through training opportunities and related activities.”

The Melco SME Academy relaunch event took place yesterday with officiating guests including Mr. Chan Hon Sang, Deputy Director of the Macao Economic BureauMr. U Kin Cho, Vice-President of Board of Directors, Macao Chamber of Commerce; and Mr. Choi Tat Meng, Vice-President of Board of Directors, Macao Chamber of Commerce being welcomed by Melco executives including Mr. Geoff Andres, Property President, Studio CityMr. Raymond Lo, Senior Vice President, Property General Manager, Altira and Mocha ClubsMs. Augusta Vargas-Prada, Vice President, Supply ChainMr. Calvin Soh, Vice President, CulinaryMs. Monica Ng, Executive Director, Supply ChainMs. Melina Quek, Director, Supply Chain; and Mr. Ken Lee, Director, Supply Chain.

Mr. Chan Hon Sang, Deputy Director of the Macao Economic Bureau, said, “We are pleased to see Macau’s integrated resort operators such as Melco Resorts & Entertainment continue to extend their support towards helping local SMEs – especially in reaching out to help businesses overcome recent challenges in light of the COVID-19 situation. We encourage SMEs to use this quieter time to add value by equipping themselves with the latest industry related information so that opportunities can be seized as soon the economy improves.”

The ceremony was followed by a Food Safety Training session attended by more than 20 local SME representatives. SME participant Mr. Zhang Shubiao, Manager, Kam Kei, said, “The current economic situation has made it quite tough for SME companies like our own to continue operating, so it’s heartening to see companies such as Melco step up to help support us by calling to see where help might be needed, physically supporting us by in coming to clean our workspaces to help us stay healthy and lift our spirits! The Food Safety Training session just now was helpful to let us stay up to date with the latest industry-related information so that we can be ready to seize opportunities as soon as the economic situation bounces back.”
