It is spooky season around the world and Memphis is ready to put on a show! With two events in close succession, I wanted to let you know about the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and Halloween celebrations taking place in this southern US city.

This year to ensure that safe social distancing is taking place during Dia de los Muertos, a traditional Mexican holiday that celebrates and honours friends and family members who have died, there will be a reserve parade. Taking place on October 24, Memphis Brooks Museum of Art and Cazateatro Bilingual Theatre Group have joined forces to create an event where members of the community will drive through Overton Park to enjoy the costumed performers, music, altars, and other festivities that will be stationed along the parade route – hence the “reverse parade.”
Halloween is also around the corner on October 31 and Memphis boasts a range of haunted locations which can be visited through the year. Some of their most well-known include The Inn at Hunt Phelan, Woodruff-Fontaine House, Overton Park Lake, The Memphis Fairgrounds and The Pontotoc Hotel.
