The world’s largest amateur golfing prize pool has been announced for the 2020 Outback Queensland Masters, including multiple A$10,000 hole-in-ones and a Million Dollar Hole-in-One Challenge.

“We are so very excited to announce, in addition to the Million Dollar Hole-in-One Challenge, A$10,000 hole-in-one challenges at each of the five locations in this year’s Outback Queensland Masters,” said Luke Bates, Queensland State Senior Manager, Golf Australia.

“The locations of the A$10,000 hole-in-one challenges include Biloela, Charleville, Quilpie, Blackall and Hughenden, culminating in Longreach for the Million Dollar Hole-in-One Challenge this June and July,” said Bates. “It really is the ultimate 2020 golfing odyssey being Australia’s most remote golf series spanning an epic 1,600 kilometres across Queensland’s Outback.

“The additional hole-in-one challenges in all locations on the Outback Queensland Masters is a bid to attract interest from golfers nationally and across the ditch to New Zealand and beyond. It will make it the world’s largest prize pool for amateur golfers, including new and first-time golfers.”

Amateur golfers and travellers are being encouraged to adventure west of the Great Divide in Queensland through the townships from Biloela and the sandstone wonders through to the channel country of Charleville, Quilpie and onto Blackall, Hughenden and the heart of the outback, Longreach, for the Million Dollar Hole-in-One Challenge.

The event is a six-part golf series across remote locations in Outback Queensland. Staged at local golf clubs in each town, the first five events are two-day events staged on Saturday and Sunday. The programme kicks off with breakfast on the Saturday morning at the local respective golf club, followed by the official tee-off.

The competition includes nine holes each day for Saturday and Sunday with breakfast and lunch included on both days. Saturday evening is dinner under the stars of the Milky Way with award-winning performers from comedy to cabaret to multi-piece bands.

The tournament culminates in Longreach for a three-day event. The event format will take place over Friday and Saturday with dinner under the stars on Friday night. The tournament culminates on the Sunday with the Million Dollar Hole-in-One Challenge.

To compete in the Million Dollar Hole-in-One, you must first have competed in two previous locations. To give back and provide opportunities for young people in Outback Queensland, free Junior Golf Clinics for local youth are also staged in the six locations on the Outback Queensland Masters with PGA Pro Darren Weatherall.

“It’s a great way for young people to get first-hand knowledge and skills in the game,” said Weatherall. “Throughout the journey I will also be offering free advice and tips to adult golfers, including hints to secure that Million Dollar Hole-in-One!

“Who will win the Million Dollar Hole-in-One? Only time will tell. But with five warm up opportunities with A$10,000 hole-in-challenges in Biloela, Charleville, Quilpie, Blackall and Hughenden, it’s well worth a try. Not to mention the extraordinary journey through the landscapes, legends and hospitality of Queensland’s outback.”
