While we all continue to hunker down, G Adventures is bringing the world to our living rooms with a live small group tour to Central America and Mexico, a walking tour of Antigua, and a salsa lesson in Ecuador, all to be enjoyed virtually.

Hot on the heels of the first virtual live small group tour to Italy, which drew in more than 750 virtual travellers globally over two departures, G Adventures is announcing Central America and Mexico as the next destination, to be led by chief experience officer (CEO), Jon. The tour ‘departs’ on Sunday May 10, 2020 at 10:00am AEST and virtual travellers can sign up here.

For travellers looking to familiarise themselves with the region before they virtually head off, Jon has also hosted a new, pre-recorded virtual walking tour of the beautiful city of Antigua, Guatemala. Travellers can join Jon on a tour of the city to learn about some of Antigua’s best-kept secrets, stunning lookouts, and local eats by following this link.

For those looking to make the most of their time in lockdown and learn a new skill, G Adventures is bringing social media fans new virtual moments. Inspired by ‘Your Moments’ experiences on G Adventures tours, virtual moments cover everything from cooking and wellness to hands-on learning experiences. These will be broadcast once a week, live on G Adventures’ Facebook and Instagram channels. The latest virtual moment is a salsa lesson with CEO Ando, from Ecuador, and is available to watch on G Adventures’ Facebook and Youtube channels . This will be followed by a beginner Italian lesson with CEO Stefano Paris. Travellers will learn the basics, and will be available to view from May 11, 2020.

Finally, to bring a much-needed dose of humour to Zoom calls, G Adventures is also introducing animated, animal-themed virtual backdrops. Wildlife is making its way into cities more than ever before, and while we would never endorse being this close to animals in real life due to our animal welfare policy, we can get behind these virtual non-socially-distanced animal backdrops, featuring a friendly giraffe, penguin, sea lion and more. More information on each Virtual Travel Experience as follows:

Virtual live small group tours – The first live virtual tours of their kind that get people as close as possible to a G Adventures trip without opening their passports. G Adventures’ chief experience officers (CEOs) take 16 ‘travellers’ on a cross-country experience introducing them to different locations in just under an hour. The participants ‘meet’ in a live Zoom room, and can interact with their CEO in real time. Observers also have the opportunity to follow along without joining the group. Future live virtual small group tours include Argentina and Vietnam, with both running on Sundays at 10am AEST.

Virtual walking tours – These pre-recorded tours feature a new city each time. Led by local CEOs and utilizing Google Maps and photos, CEOs will “walk” viewers around their city while sharing insider secrets, history and travel tips. The first virtual walking tour was Florence, which can be viewed at this link.

Travel Trivia with G Adventures – every Tuesday at 7:00pm AEST / 9:00pm NZT, each ‘Geo Party’ features a different destination every week, with five questions from eight different rounds including: food & drink, history, sport, geography, music, anagrams, entertainment and culture. Hosted through Zoom Webinar, teams can register for the next round of Trivia (with questions all about Canada, eh!) here.

Virtual moments – Inspired by the “Your Moments” experiences enjoyed by travellers on G Adventures tours, virtual moments cover everything from food and wellness to hands-on learning experiences. These will be hosted weekly on Instagram and Facebook Live and then hosted in G Adventures Facebook Videos archive and on YouTube for anyone who missed them.

Virtual backdrops – Designed to liven up Zoom video conference calls or hang outs. The first collection featured each of the seven continents, so even if travellers have never been to Antarctica, they can convince their friends and coworkers that’s where they’re hunkering down.

G Adventures will continue to add elements and destinations to the new Virtual Travel Experiences.
