Magnolia Quality Development Corporation Limited (MQDC), the international property developer, hosted the first Annual International Well-being and Sustainability Forum at Bangkok’s Royal Paragon Hall.

Highlighting the links between human and environmental well-being, a roster of international experts called for new approaches in business and planning, drawing on their expertise in fields including architecture, design, consumer experience, successful aging, and public health.

MQDC aims to spur a crucial shift in thinking amid rising global challenges, said Mr. Raj Tanta-Nanta, Group President of DTGO Corporation Limited, the parent of MQDC.

“MQDC is committed to building a better world, one focused on human well-being and environmental sustainability, the two values central to our guiding principle of ‘sustainnovation’,” he said.

“Our objective in launching this series of annual forums is to inspire people, reinforcing their determination to build a culture that puts well-being and sustainability at the center of personal and professional life. This change is vital amid global issues such as aging populations, accelerating climate change, rising urbanization, declining energy resources, and fading quality of life.”

Online bookings for the forum showed keen interest in the forum’s topics, with over 1,000 places reserved. About half of these bookings were from businesspeople and a third from academia, with the rest from media and the general public.

Mr. Visit Malaisirirat, CEO of MQDC, said this enthusiastic response reflected rising awareness that society needs to reset its priorities toward well-being and sustainability.

“MQDC operates under a core commitment ‘for all well-being’, to benefit not only humans but all living beings, so we were eager to provide this platform to foster social and environmental action, not only in property but in every area of life,” he said.

“The strong response to the forum shows how concern for well-being and sustainability is increasing. MQDC is honored to partner with leading organizations from around the world in making our projects healthier and more sustainable. The forum’s multidisciplinary lineup reflects this, demonstrating how the drive to integrate well-being and sustainability crosses academic disciplines and professional fields.”

Bringing the latest thinking in architecture, Toby Blunt, a senior partner and deputy head of studio at the world-renowned British studio Foster + Partners, spoke on well-being and sustainability in master-planning.

Mr. Bill Coan, President and Principal of ITEC Entertainment, spoke on incorporating health-boosting positive experiences into the built environment, drawing on his work designing and building themed entertainment attractions.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Singh Intrachooto, of Kasetsart University and MQDC’s Research & Innovation for Sustainability Center (RISC), examined how sustainability can become more deeply ingrained in society.

Dr. William Reichman of Canada’s world-leading Baycrest eldercare center presented on how to optimize environments for civilized aging, a key concern as a growing portion of the population enters old age.

Prof. John D. Spengler from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health shared insights on how to measure well-being and sustainability and bring them into business decision-making.
