Continuing its expansion in Japan, Hong Kong-based HK Express will debut its inaugural route to Nagasaki on 19 January.

The thrice-weekly flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, making the historic port city an ideal choice for a convenient weekend getaway.

Ahead of the launch, HK Express has cooked up an enticing introductory offer: HKD230* up one way fares! The three-day sale will take place between 18 January (00:00) and 20 January 2019 (23:59), with a three-month eligible travel period from 19 January to 19 April 2019, sans blackout dates.

To further honour the occasion, HK Express hosted a special Tram Art Jam event this afternoon (18 January) at the Whitty Street Tram Depot in the Western District. During the fun-filled event, HK Express debuted its whimsical new tram livery, designed by sought-after Japanese graffiti artist SUIKO.

This project is a collaborative effort between SUIKO and his teammate imaone, both members of the “THA” artist team. The design features the shared traditional dragon festivals of Hong Kong and Nagasaki – the renowned “Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance” and “Nagasaki Kunchi”. The two motifs are created in the same composition, symbolizing the connection between two cultures.

The event serves as an opportunity for guests to meet SUIKO, as well as Mr. Hidenori Tashiro, Director-General of International Policy of the Nagasaki Prefectural Government, and Mr. Jonathan Hutt, Commercial Director of HK Express. In addition, representatives from the Japan National Tourism Organization, Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong, and Hong Kong Tourism Board were in attendance.

“We are incredibly excited about our upcoming route to Nagasaki, considering 2019 is the Hong Kong-Japan Tourism Year, which will enable further cultural and tourism exchange between the two cities,” said Mr. Jonathan Hutt, HK Express Commercial Director. “We expect this new route to be a popular choice amongst local travellers, who love to explore Japan’s dynamic cities, lush countryside, and beautiful coastlines.”

The route expansion comes at an optimal time for HK Express, which saw stable growth in 2018. The airline flew a total of 4.1 million passengers across 1,900 sectors last year. As a testament to the airline’s efficiency, HK Express reported an average load factor of 89.9% in 2018. Going into 2019, HK Express continues to show a strong and steady performance, starting with the announcement of the upcoming Hong Kong-Bangkok route. For the fourth consecutive year, AirlineRatings.com, an independent industry research group, has named HK Express one of the world’s “Top 10 Safest Low Cost Airlines for 2019” with a “7-star safety rating”.
