An exciting, new Microbrewery, Distillery and Restaurant; Bond Store Wallaroo, is holding its Grand Opening this Thursday 19th December.

The date coincides with the 5-year anniversary of when Derek and Nicole Matthewman first purchased the building at 13 Owen Terrace, Wallaroo. Since that time, they have fully transformed and reinvigorated the iconic premises in the main street.

“It’s been a lot of hard work, but we really wanted to create something positive for the town,” Derek said. “People are just starting to appreciate how great Wallaroo is – we’ve always loved it here”
The towering, stainless-steel tanks of the microbrewery provide a stunning visual backdrop to the brewery bar and restaurant on the ground level, while the 500L copper still, named Ginger, is the centrepiece of the gin bar, downstairs in the cellar distillery.

Twelve taps in the brewery bar provide ample choice of beers, including five Bond Store brews with the remaining guest taps featuring local South Australian craft beers.

A vodka, coffee liqueur and three different gins are currently available to taste from the Distillery. The Quandong and Blood Orange Gin is the clear favourite with guests so far. The Pink Gin, created by infusing the gin with fresh raspberries, is running a close second.

A modern industrial fit out provides a relaxed space designed to encourage interaction between guests. The vision of the Bond Store is all about sharing an experience with friends and family and bringing people closer together. “We want everyone to feel welcome here,” Nicole said. “We have a great team of people working with us, they are all passionate about what we’ve created and love having a chat to our customers”
The Bond Store menu includes quality, local produce lovingly prepared with a number of dishes cooked on the custom-made parrilla charcoal grill. You can choose to share a selection of plates – tapas style, or if you wish, you can indulge in it all by yourself.

The Bond Store was originally built in 1865 by William Creaton Eland and was known as Elands Bonded Store. It stored barrels of wine, whisky and rum, amongst other goods. So, in a way, the building has come full circle and been returned to its original roots. Descendants of William Creaton Eland have been following the progress of the Bond Store with keen interest and are travelling from NSW to attend the Grand Opening on Thursday.

The official opening starts at 2pm Thursday 19 December 2019. And the festivities will continue into the evening with live music from 6.30pm.
Open 5 days a week: Wednesday, Thursday & Sunday 11am to 10pm and 11am to 11pm on Friday & Saturday.
