Spread the love

Pastor Sabine Röhm is the new chaplain for the Schönefeld and Tegel airports. This Sunday, her official introduction into the airport’s pastoral care will take place in the form of a church service in the Schönefeld village church. Sabine Röhm was a parish pastor in Moabit for ten years, before she moved to the Berlin airports. There, she will be responsible for the care of travellers in crisis or emergency situations and will offer comfort and assistance, together with the Catholic Father Wolfgang Felber. “We chaplains convey security and safety at the airports”, the pastor said. This is necessary in many cases: for example, when someone has just lost a loved one or has bid a difficult farewell, missed their flight or suffers from a severe fear of flying.

The two airport pastors will be supported by around 30 specially trained voluntary pastors. Another 15 pastors will be trained from August. They can all be identified at Schönefeld and Tegel airports with their purple vests.

“It is good for all travellers to know that even in such a pulsating place such as an airport, there is assistance and help in difficult situations with the airport chaplain”, Dr. Manfred Bobke-von Camen, Chief Human Ressources Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH, explained on the occasion of the introductory church service. “The Airport Company greatly appreciates this support”.
