They say that Kakadu Barramundi tastes like a million dollars, but a new Kakadu fishing package offers a chance for fishing enthusiasts to take home both a Barra and a million dollars CASH.

Australia’s richest fishing competition, Million Dollar Fish, has a staggering six tagged Barramundi worth $1 million each. No angler is yet to claim one of the million dollar tagged fish, though many of the $10,000 tagged Barramundi have been snared, including a number of them in the waters around Kakadu.

This season saw a total of 121 tagged Barramundi released around the Top End including one red-tagged $1 million Barra, 100 red-tagged Barras worth $10,000 each, and 20 purple-tagged Barramundi each worth $5,000, to be split between the lucky fisho and their choice of three NT based charities; Cancer Council, Starlight Children’s Foundation, and the Shimano Junior Indigenous Guide Program.

The $1 million tagged Barra joins five previous uncaught million-dollar Barras, making the waters of the Top End awash with cash.

To provide the perfect opportunity to hook a prized Barra and also explore Kakadu, Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel has launched a Fishing Escape Package.

Located in Jabiru in the heart of Kakadu, the hotel provides the closest full-service accommodation to the popular South Alligator River fishing spot, renowned for its flow of Barramundi. The Croc (as the Mercure is known) is also convenient to Yellow Water Billabong, another prime fishing spot.
