Australia’s first ‘glamping’ retreat, Paperbark Camp on the NSW South Coast, has capped its 20th birthday year by unveiling a luxe new makeover for its biggest tent.

The King Parrot king deluxe safari tent – one of 13 deluxe eco tents at Paperbark Camp – now boasts a striking, sleek Moroccan ambience with black and white interiors, plush king-size bed and two single beds, deluxe interior bath tub with bush views, private, open-air ensuite with hot shower, quality furnishings and linen, polished hardwood flooring, large wrap-around deck with outdoor setting, hand-made soaps and lotions and solar lighting.

The complete facelift firms the King Parrot as the most luxurious tent at Paperbark Camp and the pick for honeymooners, anniversary couples and also families or friends seeking an elegant bush escape.

The new-look King Parrot tent is available from $785 per night per couple, including breakfast and dinner at Paperbark Camp’s renowned restaurant, Gunyah, elevated amongst the gum trees.

Offering a blend of sophistication and simplicity, Paperbark Camp opened in 1999 as Australia’s first glamping property and was the brainchild of Sydney couple, Jeremy and Irena Hutchings, who were inspired by the safari tents they saw on an African holiday. Two decades on, the luxe bush retreat is as popular with lovers of nature and romance more than ever and continues to be at the forefront of ecotourism and luxury camping in Australia.

The camp is nestled discreetly in bushland at Jervis Bay, 2½ hours south of Sydney, with the 13 raised tents camouflaged amongst spotted gums and paperbark trees along the banks of Currambene Creek. Just a five-minute drive away are the blue-sapphire waters and chalk-white beaches of Jervis Bay.
