Queensland’s largest indoor / outdoor events site will soon have even more venue spaces on offer, with Alexandria Park at the Brisbane Showgrounds on track to host external events from October 2019.

The park will feature two acres of additional green and event space, including an existing 1,300m2 undercover events pavilion known as Building 8.

The heritage-listed Building 8 is a focal point of the new park, with extensive refurbishment works currently underway to enhance its heritage elements.

The soft landscaping including trees, plants and grass began late last month, with the design preserving the century-old fig trees synonymous with the Showgrounds.

The new park is part of the $2.9 billion Brisbane Showgrounds Regeneration Project, which is providing the public and Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) exhibitors with world-class facilities to use.

Brisbane Showgrounds General Manager of Venue Sales and Marketing Jago Coyle said Alexandria Park was suitable for a range of events including cocktail parties, banquets and festivals.

“The park has facilities for a remote kitchen, so it’s a versatile event space that can cater for up to 5,000 people,” he said.

“Alexandria Park is expected to be finished by mid-2019, first being used to house the canine competition at Queensland’s largest event – the Ekka – in August. We’re currently taking bookings for other events to hire the space from October.”

With the addition of Alexandria Park, there are now 24 event spaces on offer at the Showgrounds including the world-class Royal International Convention Centre. The Showgrounds hosts more than 250 events each year.
