Lou Day, Australasia Territory Manager for Exodus, explained that “Sri Lankan Tourism declined 57% in June this year compared to June 2018 and has caused a huge blow to the 2.5 million residents whose livelihood depends either directly or indirectly on tourism. We want to encourage Australians to now return to Sri Lanka.”
Bringing travellers back is seen as an endorsement in Sri Lanka’s efforts to recover, as travellers return it will have a positive contribution to the local economy for everyone from a tuk tuk driver to a local guide or food and souvenir seller who all rely on tourist spending.
