Dragonfly opens its doors in the historic chambers of Tai Kwun. Designed by Ashley Sutton, the bohemian-style cocktail lounge transports guests back to the late 19th century with a style and feel reflective of the Art Nouveau era. Serving creative cocktails and delicious small dishes, Dragonfly is the perfect spot to sit back over a craft cocktail to the soundtrack of the live band.

Located in the old Superintendent’s House of the former Central Police Station, Dragonfly embraces the European heritage of its surrounds. Inspired by creatives from the Art Nouveau movement, Dragonfly captures the spirit of the era’s decadence, bohemian salons and timeless artistry.

Throughout the interior, Sutton expresses his reverence for American artist Louis Tiffany, who was renowned for his favrile glass and stained-glass window creations, with turquoise glass lamps featuring yellow dragonflies embellishing the ceiling and a patterned mosaic decorating the floor and table tops. Inspired by a brooch designed by French artist René Lalique, a large, human-form dragonfly with mosaic-patterned wings spans the length of the bar and takes centre stage inside the lounge, while over 500 cast-iron dragonflies adorn the bar area and the walls. Dragonfly’s outdoor area spreads into one of Tai Kwun’s stone-paved passageways, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the history of their surrounds while enjoying the live band.

Crafted by internationally experienced bar manager Brent Flowers, the creative cocktail menu features intriguing signatures fuelled with inspirations from around the globe. Set to be one of the most popular cocktails on the menu, Monet’s Teapot (HKD128) evokes mystery and surprise through its combination of gin, sake, cucumber, nori and lime, served in a Tetsubin cast-iron teapot. Those with a sweet tooth can indulge in the bubble-tea-reinvented Dragon’s Pearls (HKD138), a Jasmine milk tea mixed with mandarin, gin and cognac, or the Thai-inspired Golden Serpent (HKD118), a mix of coconut-infused Jamaican rum, lemongrass palm sugar and pineapple juice, served with a sweet macaron on top. The eponymous Madam Marie(HKD128) is a spicy seductress, a bold mix of horseradish-infused vodka, Worcestershire sauce, smoked salt, lemon and tomato, served with a naked oyster.

Guests looking to accompany their libation with a bite can choose from the delicious selection of small plates. Favourites include Short Ribs Bun(HKD158), juicy short ribs sandwiched with hoisin sauce and pickled onion; Beef Sliders (HKD148) with a zesty guacamole; and Black Truffle Polenta Bites (HKD88) with parmesan cheese.

With live music, creative cocktails and indulgent comfort bites, Dragonfly is the perfect spot for after-work drinks or a cheeky nightcap in Central’s new cultural district. Open seven days from 5pm until late, the 70-seat cocktail lounge transports guests back to a colourful and vibrant time gone by.
