On The Go Tours have announced the winners of their annual ‘Tour Guide of the Year’ for 2018.

The awards recognise the top six tour guides from all OTG signature destinations and this year’s winners are from Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Turkey, Sri Lanka and Cambodia.

The awards are judged on traveller feedback collected over the course of the year.

“We’re extremely proud of our guides and what they give to our tour groups,” says Natalie James, General Manager of On The Go Tours.

“They are essentially the lifeblood of the company and we wouldn’t be the same without their in-depth knowledge, passion and, of course, their bubbly personalities. Our annual awards are a great way to acknowledge their hard work and the positive impact they have on enriching our travellers’ experiences.”

Each winner will receive the opportunity to travel to another On The Go Tours destination of their choice to experience the great work of other tour guides around the world.

Sri Lanka Winner: Manoj

Manoj began his career as a tour guide 14 years ago.

“The greatest pleasure in my job is the gratitude that guests convey to me at the end of the trip. Then I know that I have successfully showcased my country and that they will take fond memories back home with them.”

Lhoucine took first place in Morocco where he has been working as guide for seven years.

“What I love most about being a guide is the motivation to know more and more about my country and the world.”

Jordan winner: Mohammed

Mohammed was Tour Guide of the Year for Jordan. He first started working as a guide seven years ago.

“It’s very rare these days that you’ll find people who absolutely love their jobs. I’m one of those few. I love meeting others and hearing their stories. There’s nothing quite like that feeling you get when you see that your stories are making people smile.”

Cambodia winner: Koeurn

With over a decade of experience working as a guide, Koeurn is the winner in Cambodia.

“The most enjoyable things about guiding is the chance to share my sense of humour, my country’s history and exciting experiences with visitors from around the world.”
