Premier beach resort brand, Outrigger Hotels and Resorts, recently held its inaugural Australia Day Event at Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort to celebrate all things Aussie whilst raising awareness and funds for the Australian Bushfire Crisis and more specifically, its chosen charity WIRES (NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc.).
The event proved such a success that Revell Newton, general manager at Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort, confirmed the Australia Day Event will be held again in 2021. More than 250 guests attended over the day who was entertained by live music from DJ Teley and legendary local entertainer Henry Kapono.
Guests participated in Aussie games, delighted in local Australian food and beverages, met the Australian “Surfers in Residence,” Travis Grant, and were encouraged to dig deep to support the fundraising efforts for WIRES – which resulted in a further US$500 (AU$730) donation from “passing the hat” around during the event.
“The entire team is thrilled that the event was enjoyed by so many, and we were able to raise important awareness of the current situation in Australia. Outrigger has many long-standing friendships and connections with this beautiful country, and we are looking forward to doing it all again next year”, said Newton.
Ms Jane Hardy, local ambassador from the Australian Consulate Honolulu, accepted Outrigger Hotels and Resorts US$5,000 (AU$7,270) donation on behalf of WIRES, Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organisation as well as offering her time to host the event as emcee.
