Outrigger LIVE Streams Award-Winning Hawaiian Music Nightly

June 11, 2020 Hotel News No Comments Email Email

As the world takes a pause on travel Outrigger Resorts and Hotels is now bringing the music of Hawaii to homes around the world with nightly jam sessions from award-winning artists who traditionally performed at Kani Ka Pila Grille, located at the iconic Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort.

This programming is part of the #OutriggerCARES initiative that supports hosts and communities in which the brand operates.

The live concerts take place at 5 p.m (HST), which is perfect for Aussies on their lunch break as its 1pm AEST, via  Outrigger Resorts’ Facebook page for music fans and future travelers to enjoy virtually from the comfort of their homes.

The Kani Ka Pila Music Jam began as a pilot in March, but with thousands of viewers each week from across the globe, it became a nightly fixture featuring the beloved musicians. There’s even a “virtual tip jar” within the comments section on its Facebook page to raise funds for the performing artists. The brand also has a partnership with the Henry Kapono Foundation that supports Hawaii musicians, many who are unable to work during this pandemic.

Local artist Kawika Kahiapo said he was amazed that as a touring artist and regular performer at Kani Ka Pila Grill, how many ‘out-of-town’ fans seeked us out.

He added, “During this pandemic, in partnership with Outrigger Resorts and the magic of the Internet, I have been getting responses from around the world during my live stream. Responses such as: ‘I am missing the islands,’ ‘I can feel the spirit of aloha through the music and slack key,’ ‘I can’t wait to return to the islands.; from listeners in Australia, Japan, Paris, Canada, New Zealand, Spain, Brazil and of course America. As an ambassador of Hawaiian music, it brings me pure joy to deliver ‘Aloha’ to these long distance lovers of Hawaiian music.”

The core lineup is included below with variations from week-to-week and special guests such as Henry Kapono and Bobby Moderow.

  • Monday – Sean Na’auao, slack key guitarist and vocalist
  • Tuesday – Weldon Kekauoha, Hawaiian multi-instrumentalist and vocalist
  • Wednesday – Kapena, well-known Hawaiian band boasting more than 30 years of island music
  • Thursday – Kawika Kahiapo, iconic slack key musician
  • Friday – Mark Yamanaka, award-winning solo musician
