As part of their NAIDOC Week activities, on Wednesday 6 July, 10 members of Oaks Hotels, Resorts & Suites’ leadership team participated in their first Brush with Kindness volunteer day with charity partner Habitat for Humanity Australia, repairing homes for disadvantaged Indigenous families.

The team rolled up their sleeves to help with renovations, landscaping, minor house repairs and gardening activities in Brisbane in the first hands-on activity since the February launch of Oaks’ new partnership with Habitat for Humanity Australia and Habitat for Humanity New Zealand, a leading global not-for-profit housing provider building safe, decent shelter for vulnerable communities.

“This year’s NAIDOC Week theme is Get up, Stand up, Show up, so we were excited to take part in such a meaningful activity which will instantly make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged Indigenous Australians, including those living in crisis accommodation,” said Minor Hotels’ Head of Commercial, John Thompson.

“As an accommodation provider, we see a strong synergy between the Oaks Hotels, Resorts & Suites brand and Habitat for Humanity Australia and Habitat for Humanity New Zealand, which is committed to building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter, and we look forward to getting involved with future projects as our partnership progresses,” added Thompson.

Melinda King, Strategic Partnerships Manager from Habitat for Humanity Australia said: “We would like to thank the energetic group from Oaks Hotels, Resorts & Suites for their positive approach and willingness to mobilise to refurbish housing, crisis accommodation and transitional shelters for Indigenous women and children escaping domestic violence and homelessness. We are grateful for corporate support for our Brush with Kindness volunteering program and look forward to many more opportunities to work together in the future.”

Oaks supports Habitat for Humanity Australia and Habitat for Humanity New Zealand by financial fundraising to fund building programs across Australia and New Zealand.

Guests can support the cause by selecting to add on $1 at the time of booking on the Oaks website, opting to add $1 to their bill at the time of check in or by donating funds via the donation terminals which sit on the reception desks of all Oaks properties across Australia and New Zealand.

Oaks then doubles each donation made by matching each dollar donated by guests.
