Last night (Thursday 21 November 2019) the Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority hosted media, influencers and TV personalities at a highlands themed event in Sydney. The event was a showcase of Papua New Guinea’s unique highlands culture and the region’s untouched offering for true travellers; a place that is often regarded as the last frontier on earth.

Guests were treated to a mumu-style feast of roast pork and sweet potatoes, as well PNG-grown Kwila Coffee espresso martini’s and Queen Emma Chocolate tarts. Acclaimed Papua New Guinea artist Lesley Wengembo painted a portrait of two Huli Wigmen during the event, with Alesha Bradford of @nomadasaurus the lucky winner of the painting as well as return flights to Papua New Guinea courtesy of Air Niugini.

The highlands of Papua New Guinea is a mystical and exciting destination, home to tribes that have yet to meet white people, a full event calendar of colourful cultural festivals, one of the world’s Seven Summits (Mount Wilhelm: 4,509m) and the warm smiling faces of locals who are so welcoming of visitors. And with Papua New Guinea right on Australia’s doorstep, with direct flights from Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns, it’s the close-to-home, off-the-beaten-track, must-visit destination for true travellers.
