People’s Choice Retail Travel Agency – who will it be?

AFTA is gearing up to run its People’s Choice: Retail Travel Agency of the Year campaign for 2018 and it’s looking to boost involvement from networks and independent ATAS travel agencies.

The campaign, now in its third year, aims to promote bricks and mortar suburban ATAS travel agencies.

AFTA said yesterday the Retail Travel Agency of the Year campaign is part of its drive to promote the value of travel agents. The message it seeks to impart is this: “When consumers are searching for holiday ideas, or making a travel booking, an ATAS accredited travel agent delivers value at every step in the journey.”

Additionally, AFTA wants to ensure that consumers always look for the ATAS symbol when buying travel.

The campaign will launch next Monday, 29 January 2018 and AFTA is urging the travel community to be prepared.

More than 8000 consumer votes were received in 2017 and AFTA hopes this year to boost involvement from networks and independent ATAS travel agencies to maximise consumer engagement.

“We surveyed all 8000 consumers that voted and learned that 49% of travellers believe that a travel agent provides the best advice when choosing a holiday destination,” AFTA chief executive Jayson Westbury said yesterday.

“This scored higher than the influence of Trip Advisor, a movie, a book or magazine, a ‘great deal I found online’ and even ‘something I saw on social media’,” he added.

“Travel agents still play an invaluable role for the traveller and it is AFTA’s job to supports its accredited network and ensure that its membership base remain visible to consumers.”

AFTA welcomes APT once again, as both Gold NTIA Sponsor for the category People’s Choice: Retail Travel Agency of the Year and campaign Prize Partner.

The competition mechanics will be delivered through the Australian travel magazines International Traveller and Australian Traveller and their websites which receive 1.5 million consumer visits a year.

The ATAS travel agency with the most consumer votes in each state will be the state finalist and the winner will be the finalist that receives the most votes. The winning ATAS travel agency will be presented with the prestigious People’s Choice: Retail Travel Agency of the Year Award at the National Travel Industry Awards on Saturday, 21 July 2018.
