Phuket Orchid Resort & Spa, owned and operated by Thailand’s Kata Group Resorts, has won the ESCO Project Award 2018, in recognition of the resort’s development of its integrated energy saving programme.

ESCO is an energy service company operated by the Federation of Thai Industries and Thailand’s Ministry of Energy to provide a broad range of energy solutions including design and implementation of energy saving projects.

The award was accepted on behalf of Kata Group Resorts by Priyavit Achariyachai, the group’s director of business development.

Phuket Orchid Resort & Spa operates in a proactive, energy-saving way.

The high-performance air conditioning system utilises a voltage regulator, and the hot water supplied to guestrooms is now produced through a heat pump system, rather than a boiler, as previously.

Lighting in the rooms and the public areas has now been changed 100 percent to LED bulbs. In the kitchen, all refrigerators and refrigeration systems are equipped with a fixed temperature inverter, for fresh food all the time.

The resort also implements policies directed towards environmental conservation. Wastewater is used to water the resort gardens, guestroom electrical services are turned on and off by inserting the room keycard in its wall holder, and amenities such as shampoo, shower cream and lotions are contained in refill bottles, to reduce plastic bottle waste.

The resort also has a campaign for guests to cut down on the use of plastic drinking straws.

Phuket Orchid Resort & Spa is located at Phuket’s Karon Beach, and is a family resort with 525 guestrooms and an events hall that can hold a maximum of 450 guests.

Kata Group Resorts has been a prominent player in the hospitality industry in Thailand since 1980, making it one of the kingdom’s longest established hotel operators. The company now owns a collection of properties in highly desirable beachfront locations, with seven unique beach resorts in southern Thailand.  Five are operated under the pioneering Beyond brand. Beyond Resort Karon in Phuket and the luxurious all-villa Beyond Resort Khaolak in Phang Nga province are both adults-only resorts, with no guests under the age of 18 years. Beyond Resort Krabi is a family oriented resort, as is Beyond Resort Kata.  All four of these resorts are absolute beachfront properties. The fifth and most recently opened property, Beyond Patong, is located within two minutes walk of the beach at Patong, in Phuket, and has been designed to an innovative “Deep Blue Sea” concept. Two other resorts are operated under independent brands.  Phuket Orchid Resort & Spa is a dedicated family hotel and ideal for children with a host of activities and extensive pool areas. The seventh resort is the Novotel Samui Resort Chaweng Beach Kandaburi, managed by the AccorHotels group.

All resorts have unique qualities, whether focusing on families or couples, are open to guests all year round, and beachfront weddings and incentives groups find them an ideal setting. All Kata Group Resorts have at their core a strong sense of genuine Thai hospitality while offering high quality leisure experiences to guests. For more information visit:
