After ten months of construction, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB) has reopened Pier 3a, a section of Terminal A. The two-storey building with a total floor space of 4,000 m2 has undergone a complete renovation. This restructuring of Schengen and non-Schengen passengers has also improved operational workflows.
The ground floor now has an open-plan waiting area with five gates and two food outlets for departing and arriving passengers from the Schengen area. It also offers an additional 400 seats, charging points for mobile devices, and fully renovated toilets, thus improving the quality of services for passengers.
On the second floor, there is a further open-plan waiting area with four gates and one food outlet for departing non-Schengen passengers. Before passengers enter the waiting area, they pass through the centralised border control operated by the German Federal Police. In future, arrivals from the non-Schengen area will operate via the existing central arrival areas in Terminals A and D.

Completion of the Pier 3a modernisation programme is one of many construction projects with which we improve the quality of services for passengers in Schönefeld. Over the next few months, we will also be expanding the security check areas in Terminal B and modernising the systems for checking luggage.”
