Sydney’s most historic hotel, Pier One Sydney Harbour, is excited to announce completion of a five-year transformation journey; a $15 million-dollar design refurbishment of all rooms and suites in the property.

The complete style refresh from acclaimed contemporary architects Tonkin Zulaikha Greer, known for their work rejuvenating historic buildings, inspired the design approach with rooms that pay homage to the heritage structure of the wharf and its marine history, lifting these details frontward for guests to appreciate.

Tonkin Zulaika Greer worked closely with the Pier One Sydney Harbour team to champion the inclusion of stand-out signature Australian furniture pieces within the property, conceptualising a collection of objects which have been carefully curated and positioned in each room, to honour the beautiful imperfections found in the hotel’s original frame.

Tim Greer, Principal, Tonkin Zulaika Greer says;

“We wanted to celebrate the view, with every item in a room taking cue from the waterside location; deep blue hues in armchairs, exposed strongbacks and beams, soft linens wood finishings and mirrors carefully positioned to give guests always-on harbour views.”

Every room is special and unique, exuding history from the original flooring to heritage beams of the pier, resulting in a never-repeated stay for guests. Room objects are elevated from the floor, lit by ambient soft hues, to create a floating effect and sense of space and maintain the maritime inspiration throughout each room.

Room highlights include a newly curated mini-bar; a cabinet of exquisite curiosities, for guests to explore and discover the bespoke offering inside, including a selection from Australian craft-spirit distillery Archie Rose. A Nespresso coffee machine will also feature in the mini-bar. An open-design wardrobe, to proudly display your purchases and mementos sets the scene with bold brass fittings, compartments for all accoutrements and rounded-edge finishes.

Bathroom amenities will include a curated range of Melbourne-based natural skincare products from Hunter Lab, featuring signature scents specially formulated for Pier One. Each bathroom will also be equipped with a Dyson Supersonic hairdryer.

The final piece of the puzzle for a five-year transformation journey of the hotel, Pier One Sydney Harbour continues to proudly shine as the gateway to Sydney on the doorstep of the Walsh Bay arts and theatre hub, Sydney Harbour and CBD.

Of the renovation completion, Kim Mahaffy, General Manager of Pier One Sydney Harbour says;

“We are thrilled to invite guests to experience this design transformation of all of our rooms. We are Sydney’s most historic and pre-eminent lifestyle hotel, with a luxurious, yet accessible offering for guests looking for a distinctively Sydney experience right on Sydney Harbour.”
