“Last Thursday, 19 November, saw another well attended PONANT online event, this time focussing on the inaugural 2021/22 Antarctic season of voyages for the world’s first hybrid powered luxury polar explorer vessel, Le Commandant-Charcot.”

“Over 700 attendees from Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia and India joined us for these informative insights, and the live Q&A session indicated highly engaged consumer and trade audiences reflecting pent-up interest and confidence in this type of modern exploration” notes Deb Corbett, General Manager Sales & Marketing Asia Pacific for PONANT.

The event, hosted by PONANT’s National Business Development Manager, Craig Farrell, featured Head of Expeditions and Sustainability, Nicolas Dubreuil, linked in from France to update construction progress of the new polar explorer ship Le Commandant-Charcot. Nicolas reviewed some of the ship’s innovations and best sustainable practices including the LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) propulsion system, concluding that this is a pioneering vessel with capabilities to take luxury expedition voyages to a totally new level, exploration.

Following on was PONANT’s well known Head of Expeditions Asia Pacific, Mick Fogg, who overviewed a number of Antarctic inaugural season voyages specifically designed to take advantage of Le Commandant-Charcot’s PC2 hull construction and take guests further into the pack ice than has been possible before.

Exploration voyages include deep penetration into the Weddell Sea and Larsen Ice shelf, the challenging Ross Sea and a once-only opportunity to position in the ice to witness a Total Solar Eclipse on 4 December 2021. All the while in comfort and luxury, heralding a rewarding new era of exploration.
