The “Presidents Cupdate” offers updates and insight as anticipation builds for the event’s return to Melbourne, Australia, to be contested at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club on 9-15 December 2019.

Following a successful first appearance at Liberty National in 2017, Justin Thomas is primed for his second Presidents Cup in what will be his first-ever trip to Australia.

Thomas qualified at No. 2 in the U.S. Presidents Cup standings after collecting four wins over the past two seasons on the PGA TOUR, including his most recent victory at the 2019 BMW Championship.

“All I’ve heard is how much I’m going to love it, from Tiger and Freddie especially. They keep saying how much I’m going to love the course and love just everything about it,” Thomas said.

“I’m just excited to go to Australia let alone play golf in Australia. It’s going to be a great experience. I’m probably going to have to remember that I’m playing in a Presidents Cup, I’m not on vacation and trying to enjoy everything.”

Thomas, like several others on the U.S. Team, grew up idolising Woods and says playing for their captain will be a dream come true.

Twelve of the world’s leading golfers with a disability from six different countries will compete in the ISPS HANDA Disabled Golf Cup, which will be contested immediately following the Presidents Cup’s second session of play on Friday 13 December at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club.

ISPS HANDA, the Official Australian Charity for the Presidents Cup, are long-term advocates for the promotion of blind and disabled golf and will be supporting the event as it’s staged at Presidents Cup for the first time.

The ISPS HANDA Disabled Golf Cup will showcase golf’s inclusive design with players sharing the same test as the pros in the Presidents Cup. The ISPS HANDA Disabled Golf Cup will take place across 10 holes of the Composite Course and will mirror the Presidents Cup format on the same tees and same course conditions.

The 12 golfers will include six golfers from Australia and six golfers from the rest of the world, including Australia’s top-ranked players Geoff Nicholas and Shane Luke, along with popular Victorian Mike Rolls. ISPS HANDA World Invitational Tournament Ambassador and world No. 3, Brendan Lawlor (Ireland), is one of the six international players to take on the Australians on home soil.

It’s 50 days to go on Sunday and this week International Team Captain Ernie Els celebrated his 50th birthday.

The international players at the CJ CUP @ NINE BRIDGES in Korea gathered together to wish Captain Els a happy birthday.

Despite the early hour, he seemed to enjoy it!
